Designery Update: Students Employ Creativity and Teamwork to Complete Summer Projects

This week we're sharing the work of our Designery students, who just completed their summer session! The students have been hard at work all summer on projects for our friends at Haley House farm and Boston Real Estate Collaborative (BREC). Check out below to see photos from the session, and be sure to see their final presentations at the end of this article!

PROJECT 1: What is the future of the bike room?

The student team working on this project explored new and crazy ideas to solve a very pragmatic problem. One early iteration even explored the idea of bringing the city street indoors by recreating a bike lane inside the building! Reviewers were impressed with the work of these students:

“We are so impressed by the evolution we've seen from the first conceptual images to now, and the different skills you've learned. It's amazing that you picked up so many skills in such a short time!”

“It's clear how you worked as a team, and then came together to synthesize your ideas and come up with a solution together.”

“I love all the exploration you all did through multiple drawings and models. I appreciate the map of Boston you included with consideration of bike networks in the area, and thinking about the users who would be using this bike room. Awesome work!”

Congratulations to the student design team on a job well done! See the final presentation below:

PROJECT 2: How can we make educational materials interactive for everybody?

This student team explored key concepts in Universal Design and accessibility by elevating the original design brief tp create educational signage into an end product that was as beautiful as it was informative. The project client and reviewers were thrilled with the end result:

“One of the coolest things about this project was seeing you all come together and challenge each other's ideas, then letting that feedback elevate the project. You refused to let an idea plateau. Even when it was good, you pushed each other and made it great!”

“I'm so happy that you didn't let my requests limit your creativity!”

“The students combined hand drawing and digital tools to create exactly what they wanted, with great results! It all came together so beautifully.”

Be sure to check out the final presentation below, and visit Haley House Farm at 95R Thornton Street in Roxbury to see the final product in person!
