An Important Announcement from YouthBuild Boston

Dear Friends,

As YouthBuild Boston (YBB) enters its 30th year, and as I complete 24 years as Executive Director this summer, I have decided that it is time for me to transition from the leadership role of this organization of which I am so proud.

I came to this work in hopes of making a difference in the lives of vulnerable young people by putting them on a path to greater prosperity. Through our programs, and thanks to our amazing, dedicated staff and generous supporters, we have made significant gains in that regard.  I am humbled to be part of an organization that has changed the trajectory of life for the better for over 1300 young people.  We have helped them gain marketable skills, credentials and career-path jobs in the building trades and related industries, achieve academic success and pursue continued education, and learn the value of service to community.

I will remain Executive Director through the end of October 2020 and look forward to connecting with as many of our friends and supporters as possible in the next few months. Our Board has hired Egmont Associates to conduct a search for my successor;  if you know of candidates that should be considered for this role, please refer them to the position description found HERE. I am confident in the Board’s commitment to this process and to ensuring YBB’s future is as strong, if not stronger, than its past.  The next leader of YBB will benefit from a fiscally sound organization, with unlimited growth and impact potential, and a very capable management team: Alison Carter Marlow, Mike Chavez, Greg Mumford, and Joe Diaz, who will be critical leaders during this transition.

I hope our team and the youth we serve can count on your continued partnership and support in the months and years to come.

Appreciatively Yours,

Ken Smith, Executive Director
