YouthBuild Boston Celebrates our Longest Serving Employee

This week we're taking a moment to highlight the work of YouthBuild Boston's longest serving employee- Greg Mumford. Greg has been a staple at YouthBuild Boston for the past 27 years. He has been a powerful influence in the lives of countless young people, and has been a pillar in the nonprofit community for decades. Although Greg's last day at YouthBuild Boston was November 23, we know he will continue to impact the youth in our community through his leadership.

Above: Greg is pictured (center) with current and former students and community partners at a recent celebration honoring his work.

Prior to joining the YouthBuild Boston team, Greg was a university level football coach for the University of Massachusetts Harbor Campus, where he honed his skills in recruitment, mentoring and counseling. In his prior coaching role for Cathedral High School, Greg worked closely with high school athletes counseling them on academic, vocational, personal and athletic concerns. He worked with teachers to monitor academic studies, help select colleges and secure scholarships with his letters of recommendation. This work prepared him well for his work with young people attending programs at YouthBuild Boston, and in 1995 Greg assumed an important role within our organization.

As YouthBuild Boston's Deputy Director, Greg has tackled a number of tasks within the organization. Greg has been responsible for overall program activity by implementing procedures and practices to ensure smooth program operation and accomplishment of program objectives. He has also been known within the organization as a community liaison, holding seats on a number of community boards and coalitions. But perhaps Greg is best known for his work directly with the young people we serve. Through his work in job development, placement, and case management, Greg has made a huge impact in the lives of the many young people who have walked through our doors. He is respected by students and staff for his firm but caring nature and we will miss his mentorship, natural coaching and strong leadership.

Congratulations on an accomplished career, Greg! May you continue to find success and happiness through the important work you do.
