This week we're featuring two students from our in-school Designery program: Emanny Pina and Maura Twomey. Both students are seniors at Fenway High School and are working in design-related settings as part of their in-school Designery experience.

Emanny is working with CBT Architects and Greater Grove Hall Mainstreets initiative to create positive public art in Grove Hall. Emanny’s instructor says he has always been passionate about improving his community, and she’s excited he has found a way to apply his artistic talents to make change in the world through design.

Emanny explains his project to YBB staff during their recent visit to see what he has been up to in his internship.

Maura works on her design for a functioning hand-built camera that she built during the in-school Designery session this spring.

Meanwhile, Maura is working with Harvard Graduate School of Design FabLab to learn about digital fabrication, 3D printing, and laser cutting. Her work so far includes a super cool lamp that she has designed in Rhino and then built in real life using a 3D printer and laser cutter!

We are inspired by the amazing work of these two students and are looking forward to hearing more about their internship experiences at our upcoming event, BUILDING OUR FUTURES: Designing A Pathway Forward on Tuesday June 22 from 12pm-1pm, featuring a panel discussion focused on the importance of young adults entering the field of Architecture and Design. If you would like to receive an invitation to this virtual event please contact YBB's Director of Development, Arleaya Martin via email at arleaya@ybboston.org.
