YBB Congratulates Facilities Maintenance Apprentices
This week we're celebrating our current cohort of Facilities Maintenance Apprentices, who just completed the 1,800 working hours required to earn their Facilities Maintenance Technician Certificate!
As the only registered apprenticeship program for Facilities Maintenance Technicians in Massachusetts, the program helps address an increasing shortage of skilled workers in the industry by providing classroom instruction and on-the-job training that serves as a clear ladder of upward mobility in the field. Over the course of 18 months, Apprentices in the program complete a total of 4 courses (8 credits) while learning basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills; cleaning and preventative maintenance; pest management; landscaping; and occupational health and safety, while employed full time with an employer sponsor.

The current cohort has exhibited exceptional resilience as they continue to persist through the challenges brought about by the pandemic in order to complete the program under employer sponsor Winn Residential. 9 out of the original 10 Apprentices enrolled are scheduled to attend an official graduation ceremony later this month, opening the door to higher-paying, quality jobs in their new profession. Additionally, graduating Apprentices will be eligible to apply their coursework towards a Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management if they choose to continue their education beyond the program.
YBB has seen great interest in the program from potential students and employer sponsors, and we are currently recruiting Apprentices for a new cohort beginning in November 2021. Employer sponsors for this upcoming cohort include Winn Residential, Corcoran Management, Peabody Properties, and Boston Real Estate Collaborative, among other interested companies. Please contact us to learn more about the program or to express interest in becoming an employer sponsor.
